Today, I had a really fun-filled day at Miyamagi
kindergarten. Upon my arrival, a large
group
of very excited children surrounded
me and
started talking to me and laughing
and playing
with me. We then went on to the main
activity
of the day which was to make "yakimono"
which is sweet potatoes baked in a
traditional
Japanese charcoal stove. We had lots
of fun
trying to get the stove lit up and
then we
all threw in our potatoes and huddled
around
waiting for them to cook. While we
were waiting
,I went and played with some of the
kids
who gave me lots of little presents
that
they had made by themselves.I also
made Indian
tea for all the teachers and we had
a really
delicious pumpkin tart which Mrs. Imai
had
made the previous day. When the potatoes
were done we all rushed for the stove
and
ate until we could not eat any more.We
then
had lunch with the teachers which consisted
of a special New Year's dish called
"Ozouni"
which is a thick "miso" broth
with
"mochi", potatoes, carrots,
tofu
and other such things . It was very
tasty
and I was so full I could not even
stand
up straight after lunch. I always have
a
wonderful time when I go to the kindergartens
and today was not an exception. I can't
wait
until the next time I get a chance
to visit
the kindergarten!! |
