Edinburgh

Although Edinburgh is a small city there are many places to visit as it is a very old city and has lots of historical sites. I have only included a small selection as there are too many to mention.

The most famous landmark of Edinburgh is Edinburgh Castle. The castle is many centuries old attracts lots of visitors. You can see the castle from far away. It is built on an old volcano although it has been extinct for many years.
This is Holyrood Palace and is where the Queen stays when she visits Edinburgh. The Palace is a short walk from the castle and is joined by the Royal Mile, which is a very old street with many historical places of interest.
This is my favourite place in Edinburgh. It is called Arthur's Seat and is very close to Holyrood Palace. It is also an old volcano. This is a very popular place for walking and cycling. I go there alot and enjoy walking up it.

Every August, Edinburgh hosts the Edinburgh Festival. This is very famous and attracts people from all over ther world. There are many shows, dance groups, music artists and comedians who play during August. There is so much to see every day and is very exciting.

Also, every day during the festival, there is the Military Tatoo. This is when many miltary bands from the world come together and parade around the castle esplanade. It is very impressive (see the picture opposite.)

The Climate

The weather in Edinburgh is different from Japan as it does not get very hot. The seasons are similar, however and Autumn and Spring are both beautiful in Edinburgh as well as Japan.
