MY WEEKEND AT SUZUKA CIRCUIT!
The weekend of October 11th to 13th was the best weekend I have had in Japan! This was the weekend that I went to the Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit. Before coming to Japan, one of my dreams was to go to the F1 race but I never thought it would be possible. Thanks to Mr.Kamide at the Tanabe Board of Education for selling me the tickets to the race! On Thursday night, I met my friends Geoff and Greg at Shin-Tanabe station. On Friday morning we left home at six o'clock in the morning to go to the station and catch our train for Kyoto city from where we would catch another train to our next stop. We had a wonderful time that day and there were not too many people so we were able to enjoy the practice sessions and walk around and buy things. Even though most things were very expensive, we still bought many souvenirs and we spent a lot of money on food and drinks. The next day we went to the special party which was like an outdoor concert where we watched some old F1 races and then we met the Benetton Racing Team drivers Jean Alesi and Gerhart Berger. It was really fantastic except that it was raining really hard and I think I was the only person in the whole arena who did not have a rain coat so I got very wet and I felt very miserable!!The next day was Sunday: this was the race day that we had all been waiting for. I took a very big Canadian flag with me and we cheered for Jacques Villeneuve as hard as we could. Unfortunately, even though he started off at the pole position, he lost his lead right at the beginning to Damon Hill. I think it was a very unlucky day for Jacques because half-way through the race, his wheel came off which sent him spinning off the track and out of the race. In the end, Damon Hill won the race and we were happy for him because he tried very hard and he deserved to win the championship after a long year of difficult races! I had a truly wonderful time and I am sure that I want to go to the race next year again. Hopefully, next year Villeneuve will take victory!!TOP
A CONCERT IN TANABE!
This weekend was actually a lot of fun for me. For the first time ain a long while I was able to spend my weekend in Tanabe and I had a truly wonderful time. On Sunday, I went to the James Kohlman concert. The concert was very entertaining and after the show, I met James and we talked for a long time. It was nice to see so many Japanese people who came to the concert even though all the songs were in English. I enjoy listening to the Beatles so I enjoyed the performance very much. After James Kohlman, Yamada-san sang on stage and she was accompanied by a pianist. They were both excellent and I am very glad that I went to the show. I cannot wait for the next concert in Tanabe because I always have a good time at such cultural events.TOP
